From the 4th to the 6th of October, Claire de Lavernette represented OIDEL in the Autumn Session of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations (CINGO) of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. As the representative body of the INGOs enjoying participatory status with the Council of Europe, the Conference facilitates the participation of civil society, providing a platform where INGOs can interact with the Council of Europe in its core areas which are: human rights protection, building democratic societies and ensuring respect for the rule of law. The conference promotes participatory democracy, active citizenship and freedom of association, three important concepts in the work of OIDEL.
Since the start of Covid, it was the first time OIDEL participated in CINGO. During the event, OIDEL gained insight into the current work of the different Committees, most importantly the one entitled Education for Democracy led by a member of our executive committee. We also took the opportunity to reestablish contact with other members of civil society. We look forward to the next CINGO sessions.
