OIDEL has been invited to participate in the annual meeting of New Direction, a Think Tank linked to the Parliamentary Group of Conservatives and Reformists of the European Parliament. This year it took place in the facilities of the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid.
In this third edition of the meeting, the traditional conventional panels were replaced by round tables, in order to maximise the participation of all attendees. The topics discussed included cultural issues, the security of a free society, and the education of the next generation.
On the first day, Ignasi Grau, Director of OIDEL had the opportunity to briefly present OIDEL’s mission and projects during the Coalition Lunch. The following day, OIDEL moderated the round table on education in which the following speakers participated: Cynthia Bader (CEB Teaching and Learning), Gonzalo Sanz-Magallon (CEU-CEFAS) and Anna Wellisz (Edmund Burke Foundation). In his introduction, Ignasi Grau presented the challenges and possibilities in Western debates regarding academic freedom. The focus of the discussion was the US initiatives in the field of educational freedom. Questions were raised about their transferability to Europe and how they would benefit parents as the cornerstones of educational policies.
The event allowed OIDEL to have interesting exchanges with various experts. In addition, several foundations and think tanks linked to political parties showed great interest in OIDEL’s Freedom of Education Index.
Pour cette troisième édition, les traditionnels panels conventionnels ont été remplacés par des tables rondes, afin de maximiser la participation de tous les participants. Les thèmes abordés allaient des questions culturelles à la gestion de l’économie, de la sécurité de la société libre à l’éducation de la prochaine génération.
Le premier jour, Ignasi Grau, directeur de l’OIDEL, a eu l’occasion de présenter brièvement la mission et les projets de l’OIDEL au cours du déjeuner de la coalition. Le lendemain, l’OIDEL était chargé de modérer la table ronde sur l’éducation à laquelle ont participé les intervenants suivants : Cynthia Bader (CEB Teaching and Learning), Gonzalo Sanz-Magallon (CEU-CEFAS) et Anna Wellisz (Edmund Burke Foundation). Dans son introduction, Ignasi Grau a présenté les défis et les possibilités des débats occidentaux sur la liberté d’enseignement. Les intervenants ont discuté de la manière dont certaines des initiatives prises aux États-Unis dans le domaine de la liberté d’enseignement peuvent être transférées en Europe et des avantages qu’il y a à considérer les parents comme les pierres angulaires des politiques éducatives.
Le nouveau format de l’événement a permis à l’OIDEL d’avoir des échanges intéressants avec diverses personnalités. En outre, plusieurs fondations et groupes de réflexion liés à des partis politiques ont manifesté un grand intérêt pour l’Indice de Liberté d’Éducation.
