Upon becoming a member of OIDEL this year, the Swiss Catholic Schools invited us to their general assembly in Zurich to present our organization and the freedom of education from an international perspective. The 44 members and associated members of Swiss Catholic Schools are Catholic institutions and organizations of upbringing and education in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

After explaining our work in detail, Josyane Zingg first explained the main international instruments, giving special attention to those relevant to Switzerland. In that context, she also introduced the Freedom of Education Index (FEI), a major research project of OIDEL. Second, she explained the main challenges we currently see in freedom of education discussions, namely privatization and the autonomy of the child.

The presentation was received with great interest and stirred lively conversations. We thank the Swiss Catholic Schools for their invitation and for deciding to support us in our efforts of promoting and protecting the right to education and freedom of education.

Tras explicar detalladamente nuestro trabajo, Josyane Zingg expuso en primer lugar los principales instrumentos internacionales, destacando los relevantes para Suiza. En este contexto, también presentó el Índice de Libertad de Enseñanza (FEI, por su acrónimo inglés), un importante proyecto de investigación de OIDEL. En segundo lugar, explicó los principales retos que se plantean actualmente en los debates sobre la libertad de enseñanza, a saber, la privatización y la autonomía del niño.
