Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in La Rioja

The training “Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in La Rioja” has been a collaboration between Oidel, the Foundation of the University of La Rioja, the General Directorate of Cooperation and 2030 Agenda of the Government of La Rioja, and the UNESCO Chair of Democratic Citizenship and Cultural Freedom of the University of La Rioja. In this fourth edition of the course the focus has been on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda with an approach from Human Rights.

The first day began with an introduction into the world that is the Human Rights Council, with the Public Information Officer of OHCHR (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights). They also had the opportunity to listen to the specialist in the rights of children and youth from OHCHR, Imma Guerras. The speakers had very varied fields of work, providing a more global vision. Examples of this are the discussion about the international community’s response to a health crisis, the debate about social inclusion and talk about the establishment of public-private alliances.

On the second day of training, attendees entered the UN headquarters in Geneva to follow the panel of the 54th Human Rights Council on SDG 13: Youth and Human Rights: Climate Action. They were later able to see first-hand the archives stored in the United Nations Library, accompanied by an expert. They were able to see documents of incalculable importance, such as those of the former League of Nations. Next, they visited the Permanent Mission of Spain in Geneva, both the Ambassador and the Counselor explained the issues to which they dedicate their efforts and how they promote the achievement of the SDGs and the realization of Human Rights.

On the last day of the training, crucial topics were discussed: the effect of artificial intelligence on education, the defense mechanisms of indigenous peoples and a new social contract for education, among others. Representatives from prestigious organizations such as Caritas and DOCIP shared their knowledge with the group.

This course was attended by members of the Riojan public sector from all levels, local, regional and state. In this training, debates arose about the topics covered, as well as sharing of ideas about how to implement all the information received in a practical way in the attendees’ jobs.

Oidel hopes to hold a similar training next year
