Geneva (Switzerland), 14th–17th July 2025 | OIDEL, in collaboration with Universidad de la Rioja, successfully organized the Summer training on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) to mark the 25th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325. Over the course of a week, law students from Universidad de La Rioja in Spain and Universidad de la Sabana in Colombia joined us in Geneva to deepen their understanding of the role women play in peacebuilding and security initiatives.
Participants engaged in a diverse and thought-provoking program that welcomed distinguished speakers such as David Díaz (UN Human Rights Council), Seraina Eldada (Geneva Center for Security Policy, GCSP), Adriana López (UNITAR), and Camila Ojeda (Permanent Mission of Mexico at the UN). The speakers’expertise enriched the dialogues on global policy, advocacy, and meaningful participation of women in peace and security.
Among the many highlights of the week, participants visited the United Nations in Geneva and the Musée international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge. A particularly impactful moment was hearing the testimonies of Indigenous women participating in the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) through the support of DOCIP, offering firsthand perspectives on gender, peace, and indigenous rights.
OIDEL extends its sincere gratitude to the partners, speakers, and participants for making this program a success and for advancing the global conversation on Women, Peace and Security. We look forward to continuing training participants on human rights in relevant topics.
