Rome hosts the presentation of the Freedom of Education Index at the Chamber of Deputies

Rome (Italy), 30th September 2025 | The issue of freedom of education has recently returned to the center of public and political debate in Italy. At the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, the Freedom of Education Index was presented, an international report that monitors the right to education and freedom of teaching worldwide, with reference to Article 26.3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which recognizes the right of parents to choose the kind of education to be given to their children.

OIDEL event, in collaboration with several Permanent Missions at the United Nations in Geneva: «The Family as the Cornerstone: Preserving the Role of Parents in Ensuring the Right to Education»

Geneva (Switzerland), 16 September 2025 | At the United Nations Office at Geneva, the side event “Family as a Primary Cornerstone: Upholding Parental Roles in Ensuring the Right to Education” brought together more than 80 participants for an engaging and thoughtful discussion. The event was co-organized by the Permanent Observer Mission of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations, the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the United Nations, OIDEL, and FAFCE.

OIDEL takes part in the first session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on an Optional Protocol on the Right to Education

Geneva (Switzerland), 1st-3rd September 2025 | At the Palais des Nations in Geneva, the first session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group took place, tasked with exploring the possibility of drafting an optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the right to early childhood education, free pre-primary education, and free secondary education.

OIDEL at the Meeting of Rimini: the freedom of education as a human right

Rimini (Italy), 23rd July 2025 | The Director General of OIDEL, Ignasi Grau, took part as a speaker at the Meeting of Rimini, one of the most relevant cultural gatherings in Italy and Europe, which every summer brings together more than 800,000 visitors through conferences, exhibitions and performances, and which this year featured leading international speakers such as former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and the current Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

OIDEL–University of La Rioja joint training: «Women, Peace and Security»

Geneva (Switzerland), 14th–17th July 2025 | OIDEL, in collaboration with Universidad de la Rioja, successfully organized the Summer training on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) to mark the 25th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325. Over the course of a week, law students from Universidad de La Rioja in Spain and Universidad de la Sabana in Colombia joined us in Geneva to deepen their understanding of the role women play in peacebuilding and security initiatives.
