Geneva (Switzerland), 23rd–26th June 2025 | For the third year in a row, OIDEL successfully held the Summer University on Human Rights and Education in collaboration with ERDIE department from University of Geneva and the Global Human Rights Clinic from Notre Dame Law School. Over four days, 25 participants from various universities and organizations came together and took part in a diverse range of sessions on the right to education and international human rights principles. By the end of the training, they had expanded their networks and acquired new tools and knowledge to promote education as a universal human right both locally and globally.

It was an immensely enriching experience, featuring returning speakers from previous editions such as Ashley Berner from Johns Hopkins University and Alexandre Moreira from KU Leuven. We were also pleased to welcome new academics, including Kimberly Jenkins Robinson and Gerard Robinson from the University of Virginia, as well as Mikel Mancisidor, former member of the CESCR.

Among the many highlights, we were honored once again to host the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to education, Farida Shaheed, and to engage in an insightful discussion on the safety of education. Another particularly interesting session was our visit to the IBE-UNESCO Documentation Center, where we discussed UNESCO’s education priorities with the new Acting Director, Sobhi Tawil.
