The Hague (Netherlands), 17-18 April 2026
Twice a year, OIDEL participates in the General Assembly of the European Committee of Catholic Education. In April, the meeting brought together leaders of Catholic education from across Europe, including representatives from Germany, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Lithuania, Malta, UK, Ireland and several other countries.
During the Assembly, OIDEL presented an update on its recent activities and international initiatives in the field of the right to education and freedom of education. Participants were also invited to engage in a number of ongoing international projects and collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening educational freedom internationally.
The event provided an important opportunity to exchange experiences and perspectives on the current situation of Catholic education in Europe. Discussions highlighted both encouraging developments and the challenges faced by educational institutions in different national contexts, particularly in relation to policy, funding, demographic changes and the preservation of educational identity.
OIDEL was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these discussions and to reinforce cooperation with European partners committed to the advancement of education as a fundamental human right.
