International School Choice and Reform Conference 2024

OIDEL took the floor in two significant events at this conference. In the first, co-organized with the American Foundation Stand Together, Lauren Hodge (Stand Together – USA) and Miguel Rodríguez (Universidad de Alcalá de Henares – Spain) shared their perspectives on the role of government in education. Ignasi Grau, director of OIDEL, contributed to this discussion by reflecting on the extent in which parental right may be limited by “minimum educational standards as may be laid down or approved by the State” as it is said in the main Human Rights Instruments.

In another session led by OIDEL, the organization previewed the Freedom of Education Index 2023, garnering considerable interest. This session was further enriched by Peter Colenso from the Global School Forum, who highlighted the trend of low-fee private schools in developing countries. The upcoming publication of the Freedom of Education Index promises to offer valuable insights and data on educational pluralism.

Overall, the ISCRC offered OIDEL an invaluable platform to stay abreast of the latest research and developments in the field of educational pluralism.
