Geneva (Switzerland), 14–16 September 2026
OIDEL, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair “Democratic Citizenship and Cultural Freedom” and the Government of La Rioja, organized the 7th Course on Governance and Working Methods for the Implementation of the SDGs in La Rioja, under the title “Serving Citizens: Leadership, Innovation and Management in a Digital Society.” The training brought public servants from La Rioja to Geneva to explore how international governance, human rights, social inclusion and digital innovation can contribute to more effective and inclusive public services.
A particular highlight was the session “From Connectivity to Impact: Digital Transformation to Improve Public Services,” led by Giga, a joint initiative of UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that aims to connect every school in the world to the internet. This event marked the beginning of OIDEL’s collaboration with Giga and the first training held at its premises. We look forward to exploring the opportunities this new partnership may bring in the future.
The programme combined visits and practical learning opportunities with sessions on key contemporary challenges. Participants took part in a resolution-drafting workshop, attended a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and explored topics including social inclusion, education in the age of artificial intelligence, and digital transformation in public services. Participants also visited the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations in Geneva, where they received an introduction to the Mission’s work and gained insights into the role of diplomatic representations in multilateral cooperation.
This Joint Training marks the conclusion of a new edition of the course, further strengthening a space for learning, dialogue and the exchange of experiences on the challenges of public governance and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
